Situated on the outskirts of the village of Gilsland, this spacious former joiners workshop offers luxurious, contemporary accommodation yards from Hadrian’s Wall close to the Northumbria Cumbria border. Recently converted by local craftsmen to the highest standard, Alpha Rise offers something a little different to typical holiday cottages. An ideal base to explore the central section of the Roman Wall and to enjoy the taste of rural village life without compromising on comfort.

Gilsland

Set in beautiful dramatic countryside on the border between Northumberland & Cumbria. Gilsland has a pub, House of Meg tearooms and Gilsland Spa Hotel. Discover the Irthing Gorge and see the Popping Stone where Sir Walter Scott popped the question to Miss Charpentier. The Roman Wall passes through the village with Poltross Burn Milecastle only a ten minute stroll from Alpha Rise. To the West of the village a fine stretch of the wall leads to the River Irthing, where a metal bridge was built at Willowford in 2001, providing a continuous route to Birdoswald Roman Fort.

Accommodation

The entrance hall leads to a large, well equipped kitchen with breakfast bar continuing through to the dining/living room. Upstairs are three elegant bedrooms and luxury family bathroom.

Hadrian’s Wall

An ideal base from which to explore this exceptional piece of Roman History. Passing only yards from the front door you could be walking the wall within minutes and the major Roman forts of Birdoswold, Vindolanda and Housteads are all within easy reach.

Northumberland

To the East explore the Northumberland National Park with Kielder water and Cragside, the first house to be lit by hydro electricity. The spectacular Northumbrian coast provides an excellent day trip. The award winning Beamish Museum is only an hours drive.

Lake District

Head west to the market town of Brampton or discover the Border city of Carlisle, 18 miles from Gilsland. The breathtaking Lake District can be reached in less than an hours drive for those looking to explore a little further.
